iPad… is disappointing

Posted by: bryanyeo  :  Category: Uncategorized

Since Li Shuo asked me to update, I’ll update my blog.

Apple Tablet, named ‘iPad’, which everyone expected it to be this:

Apple Tablet was expected to be a 10 inch fully touchscreen mini notebook, running Mac OSX Leopard. It has all the features a macbook has. The use of this next generation processor should allow for good performance and relatively long battery life. The added horsepower could also allow it to do multi-tasking, just like other normal notebook

BUT! Apple surprised everyone by announcing their new product- iPad

It looks like iPod Touch at the front, and iPhone at the back. 1 GHz “Apple A4 chip”, 16, 32, or 64 GB flash storage, 802.11n, Bluetooth, accelerometer, compass, speaker, mic. 10 hours battery life. One month of standby battery. Why is it so disappointing? It is running iPhone OS and not desktop Operating System. It can’t do multi-tasking, just like normal iPod Touch. The interface also looks like iPod Touch. Apple coming applications will work on both iPhone/iPod Touch and also iPad. All iPad models are unlocked and use new GSM micro SIMs to use 3G for internet.

Price? Quite expensive to me.

Mac OS vs Microsoft Windows, which will you choose? If you ask me, my answer is both.

You cannot say that Mac is better than Windows or Windows is better than Mac. But sometimes, Windows really sucks. Just look at Windows 7, is it really a success? To me, NOT. Microsoft said that Windows 7 has faster boot time. True, it boots faster than Windows XP and Windows Vista, but, even OSX Leopard has shorter boot time compare Windows 7. You can’t even beat Apple old software, and you say it is better than Apple new OS, which is Snow Leopard?

Let’s just compare Snow Leopard and Windows 7
Snow Leopard: less/no virus                 Windows 7: Full of viruses
Snow Leopard: Almost crashless         Windows 7: BSOD(Blue Screen of Death) is so common
Snow Leopard: Better security              Windows 7: Researches show that even Vista is safer than 7
Snow Leopard: Nice interface                Windows 7: Without Aero, it looks ugly
Snow Leopard: Fast boot/shut down  Windows 7: Slower
Snow Leopard: affordable price            Windows 7: Ultimate is so damn expensive

Of coz, in some cases, Windows 7 is better
Snow Leopard: less games                        Windows 7: Lots of games
Snow Leopard: less HW customizable  Windows 7: More HW customizable.
Snow Leopard: less SW library                Windows 7: Large SW library
Snow Leopard: hard to get pirated SW Windows 7: Jack Sparrow Software is everywhere
Snow Leopard: No crash                             Windows 7: beautiful blue colour screen with lots of texts when it crashes

For your information, till now, only less than 10,000 copies of geniune Windows 7 sold in our country.

Why Microsoft wants so many versions of Windows 7? Home, Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate and etc? Why not make it fair, only one version of Windows 7 that has all the features Windows 7 should has? Look at Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard, Apple doesn’t have those rubbish. Even x86 and x64 are using the same installation DVD. The price is also cheaper compare to Windows 7 Ultimate. Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD(upgrade from leopard) is just RM109, and Mac Box Set which include Snow Leopard, iLife(RM299) and iWork(RM299) is just RM619.

For me, I prefer dual-boot. Most of the time I’m using Mac, and I only use Windows 7 when I’m gaming.

Casing

Inside Casing

The Motherboard looks small because casing too big. The motherboard is actually standard ATX size.

Cable Management

Workstation

The casing doesn’t look that big? The monitor is 23″, and the casing is much taller than the monitor.

Overclocking result

Temperature when CPU running at 100% is just 70°C, that’s very good temperature for a processor overclocked to 4.2ghz. My voltage is just 1.264V, that’s also a very good Vcore.

My overclocking attempt is a success! And the Vcore and Temperature are lower than what I expected!

Sorry for blur pictures. Dont blame me, blame iPhone’s lousy camera…

uTorrent Webui

Posted by: bryanyeo  :  Category: Uncategorized

I want back my uTorrent Webui!!!

Without that, I can die… I direct torrenting, and my internet speed slow like shit.

My torrent downloading at 10-20kbps(yea, damn slow, blame streamyx fo resticting torrent speed), and my internet speed is even slower than DIGI Edge…
When I use uTorrent Webui, downloading at 80-160kbps also no problem.

For your information, uTorrent Webui and Torrentflux is a service that you download the torrent to a server, and then you download from the server at high speed. VPN(Virtual Private Network) is almost the same. Difference is it bypass Streamyx restiction and torrent at maximum speed(maximum speed you can get from streamyx) on your computer. You can also view blocked website using VPN. It is something like proxy.

I prefer Torrentflux or uTorrent Webui because it torrents 24/7, and you download the files from that server at maximum speed once the file is completely downloaded to that server. It is better because the server is located at UK, and you should know the internet speed there. It is normal to download at 1000kbps.

I’m going to buy uTorrent Webui again after exam…

FTTH fiber optic in Malaysia… possible

Posted by: bryanyeo  :  Category: Uncategorized

FTTH: Fiberoptic To The Home. It’s here. We’re just waiting for blast-off. This junction box in Bangsar Kuala Lumpur is just waiting for activation. It was released as a trial in Sri Hartamas Kuala Lumpur way back at the end of 2007. But with the recession setting in, everything slowed to a snail’s crawl. Well, snail’s pace taken into consideration, it seems that things have picked up again. Yayy!
FTTH translates to Max Speed of 100Mbps. And yes, we know that maximum speeds are always a myth, especially with the involvement of a telco with a poor track record. Realistically, we can actually hope for 50Mbps. The pioneer areas with FTTH in Malaysia, as shared by the tech guy at Telekom Malaysia, would be Sri Hartamas, the trial area, the next phase being at my doorstep, Bangsar. Yippie!

FTTH is relatively new and Malaysia would probably be one of the early birds jumping on the bandwagon. With everyone’s interest more centered mistakenly on wireless Internet, it’s good to know that some fellows have been thinking out of the box to move toward stable and fast wired connections.

Malaysia does have some other fiber-optic ISPs, but with the backing of a larger telco like Telekom Malaysia, its FTTH will rule. Other fiber-optic ISPs so far in Malaysia are: Cyberjaya Metro Fibre Network, CMFNMetrofonPenangfon; and Time Fusion. These cover smaller areas and, relatively, may not have the infrastructure to grow as fast as FTTH from Telekom Malaysia.

Toward a fiber optic-linked 1 Nation. Cheers to TMNET, Telekom Malaysia. Please launch your FTTH service now.

Itanium Solutions AGM 2009

Posted by: bryanyeo  :  Category: Uncategorized

31/7/2009- Anual General Meeting of Itanium Solutions Catholic High School

Yesterday was the AGM. Every nominee had to give a short speech.

I was nominated for the webmaster of the club. Fong Wenkai, Timothy, Kai Yik, Chunyeen and Kyle were nominated for the President post.

Kyle gave his speech first(if i’m not mistaken). Simple and good. Kai Yik’s speech was the most convincing one, which included 2 slogans in the speech, and the way he talked was so ganas. Chun Yeen was very nervous. He stunned for a few seconds before he continue his speech. Wenkai’s and Timothy’s speech were short and simple.

I have prepared a few point to put into my speech. I didn’t write a script, so I decied to talk spontaneously. But then, other nominees for the webmaster post gave damn short speech, and because we have not enough time, I have to make my speech short. I just introduced myself, introduced the website, and said thank you. That’s all.

The result was announced at about 3.30pm. And the result was very surprising. Leong Hooi nominated for 2 posts, and got nothing. Wenkai is the new secretary, because Kyle was not nominated for the secretary. And for the president, Timothy Goh, our ex-president, is now the vice-president. Low Kyle Yi, our ex-secretary, is now our new president! Although Kai Yik’s speech increased his votes a lot, but he still can’t get a post… Ker Leet and I are the new webmasters of Itanium Solutions.

And the website of Itanium Solutions is www.chsitanium.com
